Singapore 2018. Day 2: On our way .......

We arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare before our flight and decided to do some shopping and enjoy a meal. It's always an exciting time as it feels like the beginning of our holiday. However, our excitement was short-lived as our flight got delayed for 2 1/2 hours. British Airways came to the rescue with a complimentary packet of crisps and an Alpen bar. 😂. Some of us sulked, and some of us slept.

The 13-hour flight went well with Mrs Trunchball  as an air hostess and a snoring walrus next to me (no this wasn’t Tim)  Finally, we arrived at Changi airport, exhausted yet excited to see what has changed since our last visit 10 years ago. We caught the airport shuttle bus to our hotel, and as always, were amazed at how organized Asian countries are. The ride was very affordable and hassle-free.

Our hotel is absolutely stunning and was chosen by the history buff, Tim. It was built in the 1900s as the Teutonia Club for German expats. Many famous figures visited the hotel, such as the Duke of Windsor and Anna Pavlova, the greatest ballerina of all time (excluding my nieces, of course). In 1941, the hotel was converted into a residence for high-ranking Japanese officers during the 3-year occupation of Singapore. After the war, it was used as a war crimes court and has a very colorful past. There are many old photographs on the walls, and we can't wait to learn more about the hotel's history when our jet lag has subsided.
Thankfully, in 1947 it was returned to a descendant of the original owners who made local history by building the hotel's own swimming pool. Tomorrow, we plan to enjoy the pool, but for now, it's the end of a very long day, and we're all ready for some restful sleep.

                                      Goodnight
