Singapore 2018. Day 6: Reaching new heights.......

We had an exciting plan for the day- to visit the Gardens by the Bay and witness the grandeur of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. As we reached the hotel, we couldn't help but be awestruck by its towering height that overshadowed all the surrounding skyscrapers. 



Soon, we made our way to the Gardens by the Bay, which did not exist a decade ago. We were eager to explore the different gardens that offered a picturesque view, though the weather was a bit hot. Our first stop was the cloud forest, which left us mesmerized with its 35-metre waterfall and cool mist. The foliage and moss wall added to the beauty of the place. 


Starting from the top of the waterfall, we walked down, admiring the beautiful plants and carvings that surrounded us. We were impressed with the innovative design of the place, which included aerial walkways and watering systems.

A quick Samurai burger, seaweed fries, and jasmine tea at McDonald’s was called for before the flower dome.
This is the biggest glass greenhouse in the world and it was full of plants from every continent. There was a special display on called “sunflower surprise “with 10000 sunflowers telling the story of the Wizard of Oz. 

Singapore never fails to impress, yet ......... it missed the mark with the Wizard of Oz exhibition.

 


We were blown away by the supertrees! These massive metal trees stood at an impressive 22 meters high and had an aerial walkway that gave us the feeling of being in a scene straight out of the Avatar film. The panoramic views of the Singaporean skyline and the beautiful gardens were absolutely breathtaking. We definitely will be returning one night to see them all lit up. We finished our time here on a rooftop bar enjoying the skyline of Singapore.






After returning to our room to get ready we went to the Bugis area for a look around and a spot of food,  we had  his and her noodle meals .

Singapore 2018. Day 11: Art trail to retail.........

We were typical Brits abroad this morning, a full English😱.The lounge is stunning so we took a little time to enjoy it. Reading of course. I just love the decor, it feels like it could be home to me. We visited the National gallery of Singapore today. We love art and we love Asia so it seemed like a perfect choice. The gallery was originally the city hall and the Supreme Court. It has now been restored and updated into a stunning gallery,  the new meets old. Not only was the building impressive the art was captivating too. There were numerous galleries displaying some amazing Asian art. Some of the water colours by Lim Chang Hoe would look lovely on our walls. His art was very interesting to us as he returned after a number of years to each place that he had painted and repainted them. Taiwan 2014 Day 2: A day in Taipei

Let me tell you about our adventure-filled day in Taipei! It started with trying to find a place to have breakfast. Taipei is full of quirky cafes but it seemed like they were all hiding from us. After a while, we finally stumbled upon a charming little cafe and got ourselves fueled up for the day ahead.                                                                                      Our first stop was the stunning Lin family mansion and gardens.
