Taiwan 2014 Day 4: Traveling down to Alishan
Up early today and was on the THSR train by 08.00, traveling 185mph to destination Chiayi, then the bus to Fenqihu high up in the mountains where our hotel is. Fenqihu is at the end of the mountain railway which was built by the Japanese to transport Cedar trees back to Japan, That is why we chose this beautiful-looking Japanese-style room.
We had an afternoon walk amongst the cedar and bamboo trees shrouded in mountain mist which was just the most perfect ending to a day of travelling and a complete contrast to the busy streets of Taipei. We saw our first-ever square bamboo.
In the evening we had a meal served in a small round tin called a bento box which our hotel is famous for providing to the workers and travellers on the steam railroad.
We also had a little tipple of the local beverages to help make our slumber on the floor feel a little less painful.
