Taiwan 2014 Day 5: A day in Alishan.

 

We headed up to the Alishan Forest Recreation area today, before catching the bus we decided to sample the free hotel breakfast. We were confronted with a whole load of unidentifiable dishes that were limp and grey. Oh well, nothing a quick stop at the 7/11 store didn't sort out. It looked like the rain had set in for the day, but I suppose it is the rainy season in this part of Taiwan and it does add a certain mysterious and eerie atmosphere to this ancient forest.

While exploring the forest, we stumbled upon a magnificent Buddhist temple and a few food stalls. We couldn't resist trying the various sausages on sticks from the food stalls. One of us opted for the traditional pork, while the other went for the more unusual cuttlefish, and the third played it safe with sweetcorn. 





















After a long day of walking in the rain, we sat down for a late lunch of sizzling deer, mountain mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. The dish was simple yet flavorsome, and it warmed us up on this chilly, damp day. 


As we returned to the hotel, we were exhausted and our feet were sore. We decided to unwind by watching TV while indulging in pot noodles and Taiwanese snacks. It was the perfect end to a memorable day.

Singapore 2018. Day 11: Art trail to retail.........

We were typical Brits abroad this morning, a full English😱.The lounge is stunning so we took a little time to enjoy it. Reading of course. I just love the decor, it feels like it could be home to me. We visited the National gallery of Singapore today. We love art and we love Asia so it seemed like a perfect choice. The gallery was originally the city hall and the Supreme Court. It has now been restored and updated into a stunning gallery,  the new meets old. Not only was the building impressive the art was captivating too. There were numerous galleries displaying some amazing Asian art. Some of the water colours by Lim Chang Hoe would look lovely on our walls. His art was very interesting to us as he returned after a number of years to each place that he had painted and repainted them. Taiwan 2014 Day 2: A day in Taipei

Let me tell you about our adventure-filled day in Taipei! It started with trying to find a place to have breakfast. Taipei is full of quirky cafes but it seemed like they were all hiding from us. After a while, we finally stumbled upon a charming little cafe and got ourselves fueled up for the day ahead.                                                                                      Our first stop was the stunning Lin family mansion and gardens.
