Slovenia 2019. Day 3: Strudel and Schnapps .......

An early morning was required today because we were going to the Julian Alps. The views just got

better the higher we snaked up the mountain pass. We stopped at a mountain hut for a strudel with a

view and a blueberry schnapps. The views were stunning everywhere you looked .

We came across a little chapel all made out of wood, it was so pretty. It was on the Russian road on
the northern side of the Vrsic Pass. It was built by the Russian prisoners of war in remembrance of
the Russians that died building the road.

The Vrsic pass has an elevation of 1600 m which gave us stunning panoramic views of the high peaks.

We carried on up the 50 hairpin bends then back down to the Soca Valley. We saw some amazing sights. The Soca River was beautiful with its crystal clear waters glistening against the limestone rocks.

We made our way to another small town. This town was rebuilt after the 1989 earthquake. We also
saw a few ghost towns where the local mining industries had ceased. We made our way back through Italy  then onto  Kranjska Gora.

Our tea tonight was in a traditional Slovenian Inn. It looked like it was out of a fairytale book. The food was delicious.
